Outlet Malls
By suzytino
These days the outlet mall is very similar to a shopping mall. Outlet centers used to start as factory outlets. The manufacturer would open the store to sell inventory. Usually these special stores were located outside the city, and the stores themselves were very basic.
Can you still find deals at the outlet mall? Yes, you can,
but you need to know what you’re looking for, and know your budget. Many store
chains have outlets for example Coach, GAP,
Nike, Pottery Barn and many more. The biggest outlet mall centers are TangerOutletCenters,
Prime Outlets and Premium Outlets.
Make a Plan of Attack
Some outlet malls are enormous and it will help if you know
which stores you need to visit. Most outlet centers have a website, where you
can find a directory of stores and also links to coupons.
The best bargain is usually to buy out of season. Think ahead, make a plan and
think quality. Remember which stores you need to check out during your visit.
Be Comfortable
Dress in comfortable walking shoes and comfortable clothing is an absolute must. Since you're planning on trying on clothes, avoid lots of buttons and wear something that’s easy to deal with in the changing room. Hands free is always an extra plus. I like using my fannie pack for bargain hunting, or a bag with a long shoulder strap to keep my hands free. It might be a good idea to bring your own socks if you're planning on buying shoes.
Don’t Shop on an Empty Stomach
Eat before you go if you can, otherwise I like to carry a nutrition bar, fruits, or nuts, in your bag. Bring a lunch sandwich if you're on a budget, or want to stay on your diet. The advanced bargain shopper doesn't want to waste time in line in the food court – or waste money. It’s easy to pack a cooler and leave it in the car. Carry a water bottle with you.
Possession is Key
Once you discover a great bargain, hold on to the item, even
if you are not sure if you're actually going to buy it. It’s easy to loose an
item in a sale if you don’t pick it up, if this ever happened to you, you’ll
know what I’m talking about. Don’t let it happen to you. Remember, it’s easy to
put something back once you’ve made up your mind.
Cash Strapped
Be prepared and bring cash along to the outlet mall if you
can, credit cards might not be accepted in the store with the best deal. Sometimes
the card machines simply want to be difficult and not connect to the bank
correctly. It can save the day and make it possible to grab that incredible
bargain just because you had a few extra dollar bills tucked away in your
pocket.
